The Uists & Barra Training Programme is a Learndirect Community Learning Centre which works with Western
Isles Enterprise and Learndirect Scotland together with local organisations to deliver a range of vocational qualifications
to adults and to young people. Each course of learning is designed to suit individual requirements and learners work at their
own pace in a comfortable learning environment.
Opportunities are open to all ages from the age of sixteen to retirement. Those under twenty-five years may
join the Skillseekers programme, receiving £50 per week whilst working towards a vocational qualification. Adults who are
not employed or in part-time employment including those retired and over 50 years of age may qualify for a training allowance
of £10 per week during training. Priority is given to anyone with a special need.
Learning opportunities available include the following:

Using Information Technology (Using a Computer) NVQ’s levels 1, 2 and 3

Administration (Administration and Computer use) SVQ’s levels 1 and 2

Early Years Care and Education (Child Care) SVQ’s levels 1, 2 and 3
-
Support the Development of Children’s Literacy and Numeracy Skills SVQ level 3 units (Classroom Assistants)
-
Playwork SVQ level 2 (Youth Club, After School Club and anyone working with older children)
-
Assessor Awards for workplace assessors A1 and A2 (D32 and D33)
-
Entry level Certificates in Skills for Working Life such as Administration, Catering, Domestic Work in
a Residential or Daycare Setting, Hairdressing, Horticulture, Retailing, Working in a Motor Vehicle Area

Public Internet Access is also available.
